Thinking how future historians in the downton abbey universe will wonder if the crawleys were actually murderers, bc there’s just an excessive amount of deaths on record to make any of it look innocent

And like an entire subreddit would exist to prove lord grantham was some type of mob boss in the aristocracy, who killed anyone who wronged his family. The descendants of the granthams are constantly in the media trying to disprove these theories, like “no great grandad was just a guy… we think” but they don’t really have any solid evidence to disprove any claims bc the family took those secrets to the their graves

It’s so bad that people wholeheartedly believe he was the one who sunk the titanic and caused World War I

sorry let me rant about downton abbey 10 years later

Thomas's conversion therapy plot pisses me off so much. firstly, it's incredibly out of character. he never wanted to change to conform to society, he wanted the world to change to accomodate him. the man who said "it's not against the law to hope is it" and "I'm not foul, Mr Carson, I'm not like you, but I'm not foul" would NEVER

secondly, from a storytelling perspective, the only 'problem' is that he used infected needles. did we forget that Thomas was a sergeant in the RAMC? he knows how to sterilise needles and how to recognise and treat infection. this also shifts the blame to Thomas himself for getting sick and implies that the conversion therapy itself is harmless (Dr Clarkson says it's just saline solution)

thirdly, it's not historically accurate. I'm not an expert but conversion therapy was not at all common in the 1920s, even Sigmund Freud was against it. hormone therapy and chemical castration were barely developing let alone available to the public (I can't imagine what else the 'treatment' was supposed to be). the only practices that I can find evidence of were psychoanalysis and electric shock therapy

Thomas also mentions that he did electric shock treatment - if you really want to make a point about homophobia in the 1920s (and make Thomas suffer as much as possible), show that instead. watching him be literally tortured for his sexuality would have been far more impactful than him just... looking sweaty for a few episodes

DOWNTON (specifically Anna and Thomas fans) TUMBLR!!!

I've been spinning around a fic idea in my head for a lil while of a modern day AU where Carson and Mrs Hughes are the foster parents to teenaged Anna and Thomas.

The general idea is that Anna is around 16/17 has been with the Carson's for at least a year, and is trying her best to improve and move on from her past. Whereas Thomas, 15/16, is very new to the family and is angry at the world for everything he's gone through.

Whether this will actually get off the ground is debatable (v busy atm icl) but if anyone has any ideas/scenarios/HCs that they would like to put forward feel free to come forward and share!!! 😁🫶

I'm realizing only now I never finished watching S6 of Downton Abbey 😱

A few notes/questions:

-When Tom came back from America to be the agent again, did he realize he was going to have to manage Mary / hold the family together?

-The car crash with everyone running to help. I was IMPRESSED at Cora's grip on Robert 😂 "You're not going anywhere". I don't know if it was said grip, or the clenched teeth but I could hear the "Yes dear" in his gaze 😂😂

-Never thought I'd actually end up liking Thomas Barrow but here we are

-Cora's so upset at Violet's cold shoulder. Our girl has worked for something like 30 years at this relationship, and here we are, poor thing.

-I want to be mad at Violet but *sobs* 😭 and also who can stay mad at a character that delivers line like "Your feelings do you credit my dear but you must never let tenderness be a barrier to a bit of snooping". And "Don't be mysterious, it's the last resort of people with no secrets" 😂😂😂😂

-okayyyyy I've excused Mary Crawley's behaviour in the past because her eyerolls are brilliant honestly. But Edith and Tom have a point. It's not cute anymore, hasn't been for a long time. Lucky she took great care of Anna. (And thankfully the Bateses are okay dear lord).

-The family going to Mrs Patmore's 'place of illrepute' 😂😂 they laugh but they support her ❤️ (for all the times Mrs Hughes or Daisy comment on how the downstairs people live through the family, the family gets so heavily involved with downstairs just as much 😂

Anna: sexual assault storyline that became a murder mystery rather than focusing on her healing

Korekiyo: backstory involves him getting groomed- and thats never acknowledged. Gets treated as a "sister guy" (he has romantic feelings for his groomer). Is "half possessed" by his sister which comes across as an alter and it's very very bad. Also all his memories are fake and the writers in story and in real life did not need to include the incestous grooming
